3 Bargain Hunting Tips From A Master

Everyone knows that the best time to buy Easter Eggs for a bargain price is the day after Easter.
However, most people don’t realise that you can bag bargains all year round. But only if you follow these 3 golden rules.
- Almost everything is negotiable. Don’t assume that the marked price of a product is the best price. Speak up and ask for their best price. Even department stores these days have some room to move on price and if you ask poliely, you are sure to grab a bargain.
Example: We went to a major department store when they had a sale on Plasmas. They already had them reduced in price and we were advised that they could not do any better. So we simply asked for their best deal, and they threw in a free HDMI cable worth $95 and free delivery worth $75. Just for asking!
- Scan, Scan, Scan. These days, with computers involved in some many parts of the sales process, slip-ups happen all the time and there are so many opportunities to score a bargain. Where you can, take advantage of self scanners in variety stores to check the actual price of the product you are interested in.
Example: A universal remote control was marked instore at $98. All we did was simply scan it to check its actual price, and boy were we suprised to find out it was selling for a bargain price of only $49. Half price!
- Love Thy Bundle. So you’ve just bought a new tv, and now you realise that you need a dvd player, cables and list goes on. Whenever you find yourself buying multiple items from the same store, think bundling. Sales people know they have more room to move on price when you buy multiple items from them all at once.
Example: We needed a new toaster – $60, kettle – $90 and micorwave oven – $350. When we asked for a package deal, the sales person immediately dropped the price from $500 straight down to $420. What a super bargain! Remember rule #1, we hadn’t even started to negotiate. Once we were done, we ended up walking out of the store with the bundle for $380. Now that’s a real bargain.
The moral of the story is bargains are available everyday and you just need to keep your eye peeled. By following these 3 simple steps we’ve outlined, you should definetly be able to bag a bargain the next time you hit the shops. Good luck!
