For many people, the landline has become a tool from the past.

The days of picking up the home phone to make a phone call are numbered, especially in an era where more than 6 billion mobile phones span the entire planet.

That’s one phone per person.

Most people these days simply keep their landline because of complacency. They grew up with a landline home phone and so they continue to pay exorbitant fees to run it. Some people only keep their landlines running so that people who dare not make a call to a mobile phone don’t have to pay mobile call rates.

But……….things are changing……..very quickly.

Mobile phone carriers are coming out with sexy and seductive mobile phone plans designed to keep the average Joe on the mobile for longer.

Enter the unlimited mobile phone plans.

Carriers such as Vodafone and Optus have introduced unlimited mobile phone plans that offer extraordinary value if you’re a high volume mobile phone user. Vodafone in particular offers unlimited calling to standard landlines and mobile phones across the country, plus unlimited SMS’s too.

If you’re now thinking “What’s the catch?”, there are some call types that are excluded from the plans such as calls to 1800, 1300 and 13 numbers.

But…..strangely enough, there doesn’t seem to be a restriction or “fair use policy” when it comes to Vodafone’s Unlimited Plan. That’s a good thing though, because if you’re a serious mobile phone user, you no longer have to worry about exceeding your monthly call allowance and getting a scary bill.

Is it time to ditch your landline? Possibly if you really don’t get too many calls each month. There’s no point paying line rental if no one uses it. That being said, there are still people who hate calling mobile phones and will avoid it at all costs. The choice is yours.
