How To Slash Your Phone Bill Massively
If you’ve never heard of VOIP, you’re in for a BIG surprise. Listen up because it has the potential to turn you’re nasty phone bills into minuscule concerns.
We won’t bother with a lecture on how the technology works. If you’re like most people, you’re only care is what it can do to slash your phone bill. VOIP stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol, and it basically means that you can make calls through the internet.
Now you need a couple of things to get started. For starters, you need a connection to the internet, if you don’t have one, it simply won’t work. You will also need a VOIP enabled phone, a VOIP provider, and ideally an internet router.
Now, if you’re imagining a person sitting in front of a computer making calls with a headset on, think again.
There are actually telephone handsets and cordless phones on the market that are almost indistinguishable from normal phones. You simply plug one cord into the power point, and the other into your internet connection (as opposed to your telephone line). Then, get ready to save massively on your phone bill.
If you’re still not convinced, let me give you an example of potential savings you can make.
A local phone call placed through a normal telephone line can cost up to 25 cents. An interstate call can cost a whole lot more since most telcos charge for interstate calls by the minute.
Compare this with VOIP.
Most VOIP providers will charge you a tiny 10 cents for local calls. Also 10 cents for interstate calls – untimed! This means you can call a local phone in another state for 1 minute, 10 minutes, 1 hour, 10 hours and all you will pay in 10 cents. Compare that with your normal telephone bill – you won’t even come close.
But, as with everything, there are some catches.
The quality of VOIP calls aren’t as high as normal calls, although they are getting better. Some people cannot even tell the difference. But then again, for the savings, some people simply don’t mind.
Having used VOIP for more than 4 years now, I can definitely attest to the savings that VOIP offers. Since switching from a normal phone line to VOIP, I’ve seen my home phone and work phone plummet by as much as 75%, and there’s no looking back.
