Whip It
Hot chicks… in skimpy outfits… on roller skates… beating the cr*p out of each other – don’t be fooled boys, this one’s a “Power” chick flick.
The film directorial debut for the ever cool Drew Barrymore is guaranteed to make girls of every age nostalgic. Set in modern day small town America, an ambitious yet awkward teen stubbles upon the tough and exciting world of womens roller derby, transforming her from weedy teen to roller queen.
If you grew up in the 70’s or 80’s, you’ll be calling your Mum to see if she can dig out your old skates, heading for the nearest pavement to see if you can still skate like the pro you thought you were back then, before googling when the next roller derby team tryouts are. If you grew up in the 90’s or 00’s, you’ll be rushing to your nearest op shop to beg them for some roller skates to add to your second hand punk phase. Killer outfits, killer attitude.
