If, like most people, you have a house full of electronics that constantly interfere with your current baby monitor, herein lays the solution. The Philips Avent SCD530 is the Manolo Blahnik of baby monitors. It is DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) – which simply means that you have a secure, clear connection to your baby at all times without the intermittent hissing you may experience with your current baby monitor.

Having been through several baby monitors over the past couple of years, we were eager to try this one. Both baby’s & parent’s units have LCD screens. There are temperature and humidity sensors so you can constantly monitor baby’s environment. This was an impressive feature for us, as our daughter’s room is on the west side of the house and so is always hotter than the rest of the house.

The baby’s unit is very discreet. It will fit anywhere and blend right in. It has a built in nightlight and lullaby feature, both of which can be controlled by the parent’s unit. The parent’s unit is extremely compact and comes with an attachable belt clip and lanyard, for ultimate portability. The rechargeable battery seems to last for ages and the unit has a long range of over 300m. It’s very intuitive and easy to use and can do so many things from just a few buttons.

One of the great features is the “walkie talkie”, which allows you to speak to your baby via a button on the parent’s unit. My daughter can now be comforted by my voice reassuring her that “mummy is right outside”, or I can talk to my husband if I need something and he is in the other room.

The sound quality really is impeccable. The sensitivity is adjustable, so you can vary between hearing every breath, only hearing cries, or anything in between. The signal is always crystal clear, with zero interference. Even with the unit sitting right next to a mobile phone, we didn’t get that ‘da dong, da dong, da dong’ interference that we had with all the previous monitors.

Overall, this is a fantastic monitor. You ultimately buy a monitor for the sound performance, and this one delivers perfectly in that department. The other features simply add to this to provide an all round excellent baby monitor. You will be able to sleep like a baby knowing that you have the Philips Avent SCD530.
